United Arab Emirates:
A hub for Culture & Innovation

A visionary leader, The Late Sheikh Zayed, believed that a country that loses sight of its culture and heritage risks its present and future. While the cultural landscape in each emirate has developed independently during the past decades, a growing dependency and interdependency is becoming evident across the ecosystem.

In the past decade, the UAE has emerged as a regional arts centre with global reach, constructed by the efforts and achievements of individuals and institutions. Considered crucial to the economies of developed as well as developing countries, creative and cultural industries are counted among the most rapidly growing sectors worldwide. Aiming to utilize the potential for income generation, job creation, and export earnings inherent in the creative economy, the UAE has provided impetus to this sector through a focused plan, comprising policy, regulation, and special zones.

The creative domains are also critical drivers of innovation, the engine of growth in knowledge-based economies. Furthermore, they generate high-value skill-based employment and contribute to an enhanced quality of life.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven Emirates situated on the Arabian peninsula.

Meaning ‘Land of the Gazelle’ in Arabic, Abu Dhabi was founded when a young antelope led a wandering tribe to fresh water, on an island with no more than 300 palm (‘barasti’) huts, a few coral buildings and the Ruler’s fort. This simple island settlement has since been transformed into the modern, cosmopolitan city of Abu Dhabi and the high-rise capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Any individual State, however prominent, cannot successfully face the challenges of the modern era except by enlightened scientific and cultural prosperity

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan

President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi

No matter how many buildings, foundations, schools and hospitals we build, or how many bridges we raise, all these are material entities. The real spirit behind progress is the human spirit, the able man with his intellect and capabilities can protect these foundations and who can progress and develop with them

H. H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan

The Founder of the UAE

The civilized, advanced nation we seek to build and the sustainable development we are keen to achieve both require concerted efforts from all sectors of the community and from all public and private entities and organisations.
